TOPIC ONE:The path at becoming an author.

I fell in love with the written word from the moment my grandmother read to me. I grew up with her voice and her books, and it was like eating and breathing air. There was beauty and power in words – and beauty in her whole being as she spoke them. As I grew older, I learned to listen for the messages beneath the words, because my grandmother was raised in an environment where the words of a woman held no importance at all. Yet, she encouraged me to believe that I had a voice. Becoming an author means sharing my voice with others.

Behind the worldbuilding...

The story takes place in an alternate world – a world where everyone is invincible. People don’t get sick, wounds heal within minutes, and regeneration occurs within an hour of death. People ultimately live for hundreds of years. Ava lives in Evereach, which is one of two superpower countries and where most of the story takes place. I wanted her world to be recognizable – not so different from ours – and there are cities and skyscrapers, restaurants, and homes. But one difference is the advanced drone technology. It’s normal to see CCTV drones floating around school grounds, neighborhood-watch drones circling residential precincts, and for people to own or hire drones to record important events. There are also universally accepted rules about hair-length: because people look younger for longer, the length of a person’s hair matches their age, so the older they are, the longer their hair.

Character Profile(s): Ava

Ava is 16 years old, goes to school, has a best friend, and wants to be accepted into the most prestigious dance academy in Evereach. But unlike everyone else, she’s afraid of death and can’t stand seeing people hurt. It’s a fear she tries hard not to reveal. But her Implosion ceremony is fast approaching and that’s when she’ll be surrounded by death. Because long ago, Evereach and the other superpower, Seversand, went to war over resources, each convinced they could find a weapon that would defeat immortality. Neither succeeded, and at the end of a war that raised cities to the ground but left people standing, they agreed that, as long as each country’s children proved immortal, they would never go to war again. Ava is about to change all that.

If I could choose an actress to play Ava, it would be Ella Purnell who played a younger Angelina Jolie as teen Maleficent and was both gentle and strong in the role.

Everly Frost wrote her first story when she was nine. She grew up in a country town, lived for a little while in Japan, and worked for several years in Canberra, Australia's capital city. Now, Everly lives in Brisbane, Australia, with her husband and two children. She doesn't speak Japanese so often anymore, has left the cold Canberra winters behind, but has never stopped writing.
