Patient Twenty-nine.

A monster roams the halls of Soothing Hills Asylum. Three girls dead. 29 is endowed with the curse…or gift of perception. She hears messages in music, sees lyrics in paintings. And the corn. A lifetime asylum resident, the orchestral corn music is the only constant in her life.

Mason, a new, kind orderly, sees 29 as a woman, not a lunatic. And as his belief in her grows, so does her self- confidence. That perhaps she might escape, might see the outside world.

But the monster has other plans. The missing girls share one common thread...each was twenty-nine's cell mate.

Will she be next?

She also writes non-fiction andlectures on the subjects of autism and sensory integration and is amedical contributor to online journal The Age of Autism.

Your answer

Feel free to tell your audience a bit about yourself/yourselves. I am an eclectic soul. I have dissected cadavers, toured asylums and have a near eidetic memory for music.

If you have a couple, sometimes it's fun to have both answer.

Your answer

Fun Facts, 'cause I'm weird like that. What's your favorite snack food and why?

Coffee. Not a snack...but there it is

Your answer

If you could have any job in the world, what would it be and why?

A writer. I don't think any explanation is necessary. If you are one, you are one. And you can't NOT do it.

Your answer

Any odd food or beverage you enjoy?

Oysters. In any form.

Your answer

If you could be any other fictional character, who would it be and why?

Jane Eyre, at the END of the book—to have her life experience and perspective and to finally get her happy ending.

Your answer

If you were honest, what is your biggest quirk?

Just one (*away with you work folk—do not flood the blog with comments lol)

I really do think in music. People say one phrase and it merely shifts the track for me. It's rather annoying actually.

Your answer

What do you really think of each other?

This is directed to a 2-character interview. It's fun to see them banter back and forth.

Jane: "I do not require a new gown. This one will do fine for the recital."

Jules: Rolls eyes. "Don’t be ridiculous, of course you need a new gown. I wouldn’t be caught dead in that...sheep herder's frock- ensemble."

Jane: "Really." Smoothes dress. " I think that's going a bit far?"

Jules. *eyeing clothing.."Is it? Is it though?"

Your answer

Give us a little insight into your world.

I work a dayjob as a pediatric therapist, primarily working with children who will not or cannot eat. By night. I type. And fabricate tales of hope and woe. ;)

Your answer

Favorite type of music? Song that moves you all sappy?

I love all music. Any Ed Sheeran song. I almost think he has some sort of melodic harmonic hold to bring me to ridiculous tears. Its pathetic, really.

Your answer

Care to share a secret crush, feeling, or aggravation about one of your fellow characters?

I crush on all my male characters. I mean, they spring from my unconscious, right?

This can be parents, a secondary character, an antagonist, etc...

Your answer

What's been your biggest life challenge?

An endless array of them, unfortunately.

Your answer

So, how and when do you normally chat with your creator?

Your answer

Is your creator more movie star, pro athlete, nature trail junkie, or bookworm? Why?

Your answer

K, give it up. What's your creator REALLY like? *

I honestly don’t get the context of these particular questions—if it is the author answering or the character from the book

Humor works!!

Your answer

Info to supply. *

Please include an author image, book cover or character image, purchasing links and any other links such as Website, Facebook, Twitter, etc... Images can be emailed to me.

Your answer

To Author: Are you interested in doing a giveaway? No pressure, but if so please leave details below.

Examples of giveaway: copy of book, swag, or a service, such as a critique of 1st five pages, query, or synopsis.

I would be glad to look at someones first five pages.

Vika Andreyeva can summon the snow and turn ash into gold. Nikolai Karimov can see through walls and conjure bridges out of thin air. They are enchanters—the only two in Russia—and with the Ottoman Empire and the Kazakhs threatening, the Tsar needs a powerful enchanter by his side.

And so he initiates the Crown’s Game, an ancient duel of magical skill—the greatest test an enchanter will ever know. The victor becomes the Imperial Enchanter and the Tsar’s most respected adviser. The defeated is sentenced to death.

Raised on tiny Ovchinin Island her whole life, Vika is eager for the chance to show off her talent in the grand capital of Saint Petersburg. But can she kill another enchanter—even when his magic calls to her like nothing else ever has?

For Nikolai, an orphan, the Crown’s Game is the chance of a lifetime. But his deadly opponent is a force to be reckoned with—beautiful, whip smart, imaginative—and he can’t stop thinking about her.

And when Pasha, Nikolai’s best friend and heir to the throne, also starts to fall for the mysterious enchantress, Nikolai must defeat the girl they both love . . . or be killed himself.

As long-buried secrets emerge, threatening the future of the empire, it becomes dangerously clear . . . the Crown’s Game is not one to lose.

  1. Magic! This magic sounds fierce and wildly unpredictable. Just the way I like it...
  2. The world-building! Centered in Russia is just an added bonus for me.
  3. A deadly game! I've always been intrigued by magical and\or non-magical fight-to-the-death games where only one victor comes out on top (Or is suppose to be the only one ;)
  4. Forbidden romance! Their romance isn't forbidden per-say, (At least I don't think it is anyway) but one must die in their magical dual. So I'd say forbidden love is a definite no-no. But of course forbidden love is never really forbidden in the eyes and hearts of the forbide'es!
  5. Royals, enchanters, magic, political-intrigue, deadly games, fun romance, lies, betrayals, hidden secrets, and more! Who wouldn't be excited???

Genre: Young Adult Dystopian/Sci-fi
Release Date: December 9th 2015
Dunecadia Publishing

The earth’s core overheats. The sovereign leader vanishes. A young girl is the survivors’ only hope …

What little land is habitable is patrolled by cutthroat gangs of escaped subversives, but that’s not the greatest threat facing sixteen-year-old Derry Connelly, her brother Owen, and a ragged band of Preppers holed up in a bunker in the Sawtooth Mountains. Mysterious hoverships operated by clones are targeting adolescents for extraction.

Owen, is one of the first to disappear. To save him, Derry must strike a deal with the murderous subversives, and risk a daring raid to infiltrate the heart of the extraction operation.

But will the rookie leader falter when forced to choose between her brother and a clone who ignites something inside her she didn’t know was possible?

I trace the trigger housing on my gun and count the remaining clones congregated around the room. We’re grossly outnumbered. And Owen is weaponless. This can’t end well if we don’t comply.

"You have thirty seconds to accept my terms," Lyong says, a nettled edge to his voice.

I shiver, picturing his one-eyed tic appraising me in a monitor somewhere as he talks, his papery skin rippling with the effort of speech. I can’t see a way out of the situation that gives me any chance of saving Owen, other than to negotiate. Hesitantly, I raise my arms and step forward.

"My brother’s injured," I yell. "If you give us your word you’ll help him, we’ll turn over our weapons."

My heart strains in my chest. I’m counting on Mason and Sven to hold their fire. I wait for what seems like forever, steeling myself for Lyong’s response.

The intercom crackles to life, but Lyong’s words are drowned out in a barrage of gunfire. I pitch sideways beneath a conveyer belt and huddle in a ball, shaking. Debris pelts me from every angle; chunks of seat cushions, shredded medical tubing, shards of glass from exploding computer screens. A pungent chemical smell fills the air.

All over the room, disoriented Schutz Clones fly backward. I stare in disbelief as they writhe in death throes, ossifying before my eyes. Mason bolts across the floor and rolls under the belt beside me. His eyes gleam like cat’s eyes in the dim light. "It’s the Council," he yells, between breaths. "They’ve penetrated the Craniopolis!"

I blink as I digest what he’s saying, my ears roaring.

Mason slams a fresh cartridge into his gun, his knuckles bleeding profusely. "They must have triggered the explosion. They’ve been planning an attack for months."

My brain slowly wraps itself around the information. There’s still a chance of getting out of here alive. I unload my pack and roll over into sniper position. "Then let’s finish this." I lock eyes with Mason. "For Owen."

Guest Post:

Behind the worldbuilding...

Future Shock takes place in Los Angeles and surrounding areas, both in the present and in the future. I’ve lived my entire life in Los Angeles, so it was natural to set the book there and I thought it would be fun to envision what the city might be like in thirty years.

The characters in the book travel to many different places in the future Los Angeles they visit, including…

Hollywood Blvd:

Santa Monica Pier:

Central Public Library:

In the future, the characters encounter all sorts of new technology. One of the first things they notice is that the cars all drive themselves and have no steering wheels! This technology is actually already in use by Google and other companies, and they hope to have the cars for sale by 2020 – so I definitely believe a future in which everyone drives them is not only possible, but probable.

Google’s Self Driving Car:

The other big leap in technology the characters encounter is with computers. People in the future no longer use phones or laptops or anything like that – instead, they use flexis. Flexis are thin, bandage-like things people stick on their temples that read brain waves and beam the internet into your head. They can take on all sorts of patterns and colors, which makes them sort of like customizable temporary tattoos.

Another fun thing in the future – smartclothes! These are programmable clothes connected to people’s flexis or to the internet, that can change color, display ads, and all sorts of other things!

The futuristic Los Angeles of Future Shock was really fun to develop and a place I would love to visit – I hope readers enjoy it too!

add to goodreads

Fulfilling her destiny and becoming the Guardian has meant a world of sacrifices for Celeste Wilder, but her most difficult challenge is yet to come. The supernatural forces at play are far more powerful than she ever expected, and she will have to trust her instincts if she hopes to survive. Lilliana Constantin is back from the dead. Alek is free and somehow stronger than ever. A pack of rogue werewolves are wreaking havoc in her small town. And on top of all of this, Celeste faces what is at best an uncertain future with the love of her life.

While battling the forces of evil and saving the human world alongside Stellan and the handsome Constantin brothers has become second nature, Celeste had no idea what accepting her duty as the Guardian would actually cost her. When she faces an unspeakable tragedy, she is pushed to her breaking point. After fighting her most formidable enemies, Celeste is about to discover that sometimes the greatest evil is the one that comes from within.

Guest Post:

Character Profile: CELESTE

When the series starts out in Wilder: The Guardian Series, Celeste is a typical 18 year old girl finishing up her senior year of Catholic high school. She lives in a small town called Oak Bluffs located somewhere in the northeastern US. Celeste lost her father when she was only 10 years old and is an only child living with her mom. She had always felt there was something missing in her life, but never knew what it was. She longed to have a boyfriend and loved reading and watching romance novels and movies. Her best friend is her next-door neighbor Brian, who she’s known since they were little kids and beyond him, she doesn’t have a lot of friends as she became a little reclusive after her father’s death. All she’s ever wanted was to go to college at NYU like her dad did. Then everything changes when the Constantin brothers come into town. She is immediately drawn to them, like nothing she had ever experienced before. It’s through her friendship with them that she learns about her own powers and family legacy. I don’t want to give too much away, but she becomes quite the kick-butt heroine. She is strong and smart and doesn’t like to sit around while the guys protect her. She has a few love interests as the book progresses and you’ll just have to see which eligible bachelor she chooses!

It was really hard to pick an actress play Celeste but after seeing Chloe Grace Moretz in a few movies, I think she would be a great choice!

Meet The Author:
G.K. DeRosa
G.K. De Rosa has been an avid reader from a very young age. In fact, before she could even read, she tried fooling everyone into thinking that she could. At the precocious age of two, while living in Italy, she had memorized an entire children’s book in Italian and expertly turned the pages at the exact right moments of the story. As she grew up, she always enjoyed literature, no doubt having been instilled with a love of story telling from her early years in Catholic school where she was greatly influenced by exemplary teachers who taught her the value of English and Literature. Though she did not pursue writing in college and instead went for the more traditional route of International Business inspired by her love for travel and all things foreign, after a move to New York City, she found her creative writing side calling once again. She began writing a restaurant review blog, City Lights and Tasty Bites, detailing her other passion – food! The hectic hustle and bustle of the city, combined with long commuting times gave her the opportunity to spend more time reading and rekindled a lost love. After reading countless books in many diverse genres over the two years in New York City, and returning to her home state of Florida, she felt compelled to write something for herself. She had always felt particularly drawn to Young Adult novels and having been an eternal romantic at heart, a fantasy romance was a natural choice. She currently lives in South Florida with her real life Prince Charming and their fur baby, Nico the German Shepherd.

Blog Tour + Interview: Siren's Song by Mary Weber

by Mary Weber
(The Storm Siren Trilogy #3)
Published: March 1st, 2016
Genre: YA, Fantasy, Paranormal
Publisher: Thomas Nelson / HarperCollins

Nym and Draewulf prepare to face off in a battle destined to destroy more lives than it saves.

With the loss of Tulla still fresh in mind, Rasha’s fate unknown, and Lord Myles taken over by the dark ability, Nym and the few Bron soldiers rush to warn Cashlin’s queen. Only to discover it may already be too late for the monarch and her eerie kingdom. As the Luminescents are sifting through Nym’s past memories and the queen is reading into her future, Nym is given a choice of how to defeat Draewulf, but the cost may be more than she can bear. And even then there are no guarantees.

With that reality burrowing into her bones—along with the guilt of the lives she will sacrifice—Nym returns to her homeland of Faelen to raise an army of peasants through promises of freedom. But when the few friends she has left, along with the world and citizens she loves, are staring down the face of a monster and his undead army, will Nym summon every element her blood is capable of controlling . . . or surrender to a different strength—one of sacrifice?

Because in the end, death may be more merciful for them all.

Hi Mary, I'm thrilled to have you here today at Addicted Readers! :)

1.) Can you tell us where the inspiration came from for the STORM SIREN Trilogy, and do you think the finished copy turned out to be what you planned on, or did it change from what you initially mapped out for it?

So I have a massive love of history (Joan of Arc and St. Patrick particularly) and a bit of an obsession with all things comic book, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Lord of the Rings. So…yeah. J

As far as the story changing – I’d originally toyed with the idea of each book following a different female (Nym, Rasha, then Isobel), but my publisher and I felt it was ultimately Nym’s story. So I’d not actually plotted beyond book 1, and after that beyond book 2, until I arrived at book 3 – which nicely resulted in giving me a lot of freedom for the story.

(And incidentally, this is how I plot –> in my car while driving. And then hope I remember it all by the time I get home. ;0))

2.) What was the most challenging, and the most enjoyable aspect of writing SIREN’S SONG, and why?

Oh gosh, I think the most challenging was definitely the plot for book 3. I got three chapters in and felt stuck. Like it just wouldn’t push forward. Finally I started at the end of the book, which I’ve never done (I always like being surprised with everyone else by how it’ll end), and wrote backwards. As far as the most enjoyable aspect, I’d say it was getting to spend intimate moments with each of the characters and explore how their stories should wrap up. <3 p="">

3.) Do you free write by writing whatever comes to mind, or do you map and plot everything out before you sit down to write?
<3 p="">
<3 p="">I actually do a combination of both. Once I start in on a book, I have the chapters and plot generally laid out, but I free write the rest of it to discover where a scene or character wants to go.
<3 p="">
<3 p="">
<3 p="">4.) Can you tell us five random things about you?

*laughs* Oh man. Um…

1. I get terrible motion sickness. (Like, I get sick in a rocking chair, ahem.)

2. I’ve known my husband since I was 3 months old (but thought he was a gross boy until high school).
<3 p="">
<3 p="">This is us:

<3 p="">
3. I’m one of six kids (the favorite obviously).

4. The last movie I saw in the theater was Pride & Prejudice & Zombies (excellent).

5. My husband would tell you I am ill-equipped to deal with rush-hour traffic and life when I’m hangry (hungry+angry).

5.) If you could describe SIREN’S SONG in 15 words or less, what would they be?

All-hulls-hits-the-fan, Nym’s-past-is-exposed, the-shapeshifter-is-insane, mass-of-wraith-zombies, epic-war, smoke, loss, sweet-Kel, more-loss, powers-beyond-imagining, Eogan’s-too-sexy-for-his-shirt.

6.) Who was your most favorite character in SIREN’S SONG, and why?

Kel. Absolutely. His sweet little innocent soul has seen so much horror, and yet, he still believes in goodness. After him, I’d choose Lord Myles. J

Mary, thank you so much for stopping by today, and I'm soooo excited to see what you come up with next!! :)

Thank YOU for hosting me!!!!! <3 p="">
