  31. The book I was luckiest to read while a kid was Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising. It got me into the fantasy genre and into reading on a pretty much nightly basis. I devoured all of her other books afterwards, and then moved on to TA Barron's The Lost Years of Merlin and similar books :) As an adult, I'd say Lindsay Buroker's Emperor's Edge series. It's in fantasy, but it's also indie. It was my big eureka moment, realizing just how good these books can be. Any book that encourages me to read more, I'm lucky to find :)
