Reality is only an illusion.

Except for those who can control it…

Worst. Birthday. Ever.

My first boyfriend dumped me – happy birthday, Josie!- my dad is who knows where, I have some weird virus that makes me want to hurl, and now my ex is licking another girl’s tonsils. Oh, and I’m officially the same age as my brother was when he died. Yeah, today is about as fun-filled as the swamps of Dagobah. But then weird things start happening…

Like I make something materialize just by thinking about it.

When hot badass Reid Wentworth shows up on a motorcycle, everything changes. Like, everything. Who I am. My family. What really happened to my brother. Existence. I am Oculi, and I have the ability to change reality with my thoughts. Now Reid, in all his hotness, is charged with guiding and protecting me as I begin learning how to bend reality. And he’s the only thing standing between me and the secret organization that wants me dead…

How old are you?

I’m seventeen.

Where did you grow up?

Everywhere. I’ve moved around my entire life, not living in the same town for more than year usually, until now. We’ve been in this house the longest, but I chalked that up to finally being allowed to attend public school as opposed to being homeschool. Thank Thor!

Who are your family members?

My mom, my nine year old brother, Eli, my brother, Nick died over two years ago. He was two years older than me. My dad went undercover into the Consortium and no one has heard from him – he’s either being held against his will or…well, the statistics do not look good.

What is something you hope to do someday?

I’d love to attend MIT possibly. But my future plans are put on hold for the time being. I’d also give my left arm to go to Comic Con.

What’s your job and do you enjoy it?

I was never allowed to hold a job outside school. I guess I could now say my job is to join the Resistance and help keep an Oculi civil war from busting out and destroying mankind as we know it.

What do you do for fun?

Hang out with my best friend Hannah, watch movies or The Big Bang Theory reruns, read – a lot.

Who is someone you look up to and why?

My mom. She puts up this hard exterior, especially since Nick died, and she has so much responsibility. She’s pretty much a single parent since my dad was gone so much for work and now he’s MIA. She is also one badass scientist.

Can you name someone who has surprised you and in what way?

*Blushes and smiles* Reid Wentworth. I thought he was a typical motorcycle-riding hot bad boy who’d be a complete jerk. And, in some ways, he is, but there is more. He’s kind of like a Transformer – There is more to him than meets the eye. He pushes me to do better, he’s wise for his age, and his passion inspires me.

Tonya Kuper's debut, ANOMALY, the first in the Schrodinger's Consortium young adult scifi trilogy, releases November 2014 by Entangled Teen. She lives in Omaha, NE with her two rad boys and husband, is a music junkie, and a chocolate addict. Star Wars & Sherlock fan.

  1. Loved the blurb!! Sounds like a fascinating story.. I love the idea of being able to bend reality and the suspense of being on the run from a secret organization sounds like fun (not for the character but definitely for the reader lol). Thanks for sharing!
