A lush and gorgeously written debut, packed with action, intrigue, and a thrilling love triangle.

Alexa Hollen is a fighter. Forced to disguise herself as a boy and serve in the king's army, Alex uses her quick wit and fierce sword-fighting skills to earn a spot on the elite prince's guard. But when a powerful sorcerer sneaks into the palace in the dead of night, even Alex, who is virtually unbeatable, can't prevent him from abducting her, her fellow guard and friend Rylan, and Prince Damian, taking them through the treacherous wilds of the jungle and deep into enemy territory.

The longer Alex is held captive with both Rylan and the prince, the more she realizes that she is not the only one who has been keeping dangerous secrets. And suddenly, after her own secret is revealed, Alex finds herself confronted with two men vying for her heart: the safe and steady Rylan, who has always cared for her, and the dark, intriguing Damian. With hidden foes lurking around every corner, is Alex strong enough to save herself and the kingdom she's sworn to protect?

  2. With a review like that, anyone would want to read this book! I love a good, strong female character. It kind of reminds me of Mulan, but that's just because Alexa became Alex. I wouldn't want to live in a world where women are kept like cattle, only useful for breeding. I can somewhat relate to it, though. I was a fairly attractive CS major in college, and guys would start chatting with me all the time. People that I could easily be good friends with. As soon as the boyfriend bomb dropped, they'd all leave. Like I wasn't worth hanging out with if they had no chance of getting laid. Depressing. Women should have more value to men than just being things to play with. Good for Alexa, figuring out how to avoid it herself.

  3. This is another series that I want to read, but I am most definitely waiting to read it when I can read them all in one go. I have way too many series that I am in the middle of, and I always end up rereading. This way, I can sit down and read a whole series in one go, and enjoy it all!

  4. I actually own this book, but I haven't read it. I'm glad you loved it so much. I don't like sad books though so the fact that you cried and was heartbroken scares me!
