An action-packed, blood-soaked, futuristic debut thriller set in a world where the murder rate is higher than the birthrate. For fans of Moira Young’s Dust Lands series, La Femme Nikita, and the movie Hanna.

Meadow Woodson, a fifteen-year-old girl who has been trained by her father to fight, to kill, and to survive in any situation, lives with her family on a houseboat in Florida. The state is controlled by The Murder Complex, an organization that tracks the population with precision.

The plot starts to thicken when Meadow meets Zephyr James, who is—although he doesn’t know it—one of the MC’s programmed assassins. Is their meeting a coincidence? Destiny? Or part of a terrifying strategy? And will Zephyr keep Meadow from discovering the haunting truth about her family?

Action-packed, blood-soaked, and chilling, this is a dark and compelling debut novel by Lindsay Cummings.

THE FEAR TRIALS was a gory, fascinating, thrilling, yet horrifyingly delicious adventure!!

I LOVED the world building for this scary world! It was so addicting and easy to get caught up in all the pain, misery, and action in this world.

THE FEAR TRIALS is a great prequel to THE MURDER COMPLEX because it sets the stage, and shows us what to except from the first book. It gives us a glimpse into what these people have to go through just to survive in their world, and it's pretty horrifying.

Meadow lives in a blood-filled world where seclusion, destruction, and murder rule. There is no hiding from it, no running from it, no escaping it. Because no matter where you go, it's there. It doesn't follow you, it doesn't search for you, it's doesn't find you, because it revolves around you. Because it's a part of you!

Living in a walled-in city, with nothing but blood and murder around her, Meadow has learned that there is no hope of escaping, doomed to die within it's boundaries. Meadow fights each day for survival, while confined with her family on their house boat. With limited amounts of food, and a whole family to feed, and not enough work. But there is one spark of hope that remains, her father!

Her father is preparing her for the outside world. Well as far as outside can go in they're walled-in city. They live in a world where murder rate is high then birthrate. And stepping outside after dark could very well mean certain death. But Meadow's father refuses to let that happen to his family. He works with his kids every free chance he has. He is determined to make them stronger, harder, bolder, and able to kill when the time comes. Because their isn't an "If" it comes, it's "When" it comes! Because in the world they live in, killing means surviving, and not killing means dying!

So he's training Meadow for The Fear Trials that consist of a series of test and trials that she will have to face in order to pass her test and be awarded the opportunity to be allowed to leave their house boat without supervision. In there world, you either have to know how to survive, or you die. So Meadow goes through test after test, preparing herself for the time when it's her turn to be awarded a chance at a job. But there too she will be tested to see if she's worthy to work within the city. But if she fails, then they will have to live like scavengers or murders...

Overall, It was an amazing start to an addicting series that I know I will devour quickly! I can't wait to read the first book, THE MURDER COMPLEX and see where the story goes, and what happens to this family! I know it's going to be one hell of adventure! And I wouldn't expect anything less after read THE FEAR TRIALS!!!

  2. If I were trained to kill my weapon if choice would probably be knives/swords because it seems like you'd be most likely to find those than a bow or a whip.

  3. Yay, glad you like the prequel novella! I love it when they do that, it definitely gives you more on an insight into the world you're in that you might not quite get in the first book because you're getting introduced to the characters and the plot and the situation, it's a lot to stuff into the first. And usually, you get the prequel after the first book, so at least you can dive right in and read it in order properly, it should make the first book in the series better to understand. :) Can't wait to see what you think of The Murder Complex now! :)

  4. I normally don't read novellas. they just don't hold any interest for me and they are over too quick. But a prequel novella is one that i feel I should read, so I can go into The Murder COmplex with some information. Thanks for the review!

  5. I am not much a fan of Dystopian but I do appreciate the amount of detailing that goes into these stories. Fear Trials just seems to be one of those good Dystopian's

I love meeting new people through comments, and I always try to comment back! Thanks for stopping by! :)
