A heartbroken girl. A fierce warrior. A hero in the making.

Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now, the Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.

Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, raised by the Winterians’ general, Sir. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, and future king, Mather — she would do anything to help her kingdom rise to power again.

So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore Winter’s magic, Meira decides to go after it herself. Finally, she’s scaling towers, fighting enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she’s always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn’t go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics – and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.

Sara Raasch’s debut fantasy is a lightning-fast tale of loyalty, love, and finding one’s destiny.

WOW, that was soooo sooo awesome!! I loved the thrilling, intensely, heart-pounding, emotional roller coaster of ups and downs!!! I found myself glued to the pages every free chance I got!! Just needing more and to know where this story was going! And where it went was AMAZING!!!

SNOW LIKE ASHES was a magically enchanting world, that I fell in love with! I was swept into a world of magic, lies, destiny, raging war, an evil ruler, determined refugees, slaves bound by chains, and one girl with a light so bright that burned within her like the raging storms pulsing to be let out and unleashed on evil! To say SNOW LIKE ASHES was magical, would be an understatement! It was breathtakingly beautiful!!

War has come and gone in the Kingdom of Winter. But Winter has failed, defeated and conquered by the evil ruler of Spring, Angra! But Angra will not be satisfied until every last Winterians is enslaved and at his mercy.

He has succeeded in bringing down Winter's walls,  succeeded in conquering and enslaving the Winterians, he succeeded in stealing their magic from within them. But, he has NOT succeeded in completing his mission!! There are 8 Winterians still standing, 8 Winterians who escaped the night Winter was conquered, 8 Winterians who has vowed to save them all,  8 Winterians who will save them, or die trying...

Meira is one of the 8 Winterians left standing. She was just an infant when the walls went down and Winter was seized and conquered by Angra. She knows nothing of Winter but what's in the minds of other Winterians. Only bits and pieces of broken down story's with gaps created from time.

It has been 16 years since they've been in hiding, trying to find a way to regain control of their City and free their people slaving in the work camps. And they think they've finally found the way to defeat Angra and reclaim their place in Jannuari! But it won't come easy, and their will be a high price to pay with many lives lost. But first, they will have to find allies to fight with them, but allying might be their most deadliest move of all!!!

Meira has been having disturbing dreams of Winter. Of the night the kingdom fell, of the Queen who was defeated and killed for a sacrifice of her kingdom. But these dreams seem more then real, they seem like a message, a calling to her, a cry for help. And as Meira slowly realizes, she may be more needed then she ever thought. She may be Winters last hope!

The time is coming to battle for what they lost that fateful night 16 years ago. But the fight will be nothing short of deadly. Many lives will be lost in hopes of gaining their kingdom's freedom. But they realize that this is a sacrifice they might have to make...

SNOW LIKE ASHES is a must read for any fantasy fan out there! I know I will be rereading this book from years to come, and definitely finishing this series.
Overall, SNOW LIKE ASHES was an explosive, heart-pounding, magically bloody, gut wrenching world that will captivate the hearts of many, and leave you yearning for more!!!

Sara RaaschSara Raasch has known she was destined for bookish things since the age of five, when her friends had a lemonade stand and she tagged along to sell her hand-drawn picture books too. Not much has changed since then -- her friends still cock concerned eyebrows when she attempts to draw things and her enthusiasm for the written word still drives her to extreme measures. Her debut YA fantasy, SNOW LIKE ASHES, is coming out Fall 2014 from Balzer + Bray. It does not feature her hand-drawn pictures. She is represented by Charlotte Sheedy Literary.

    1. YES, be ready for a ride of your life, because that's what SNOW LIKE ASHES gave to me!! I LOVED it and can't WAIT for book 2! :)

  2. With the images shown, I kept wondering if I was reading a review for Th Song of fire and Ice novels instead, lol. This is a fantasy novel I look forward to reading.

    1. I've never heard of The Song Of fire novels. I'll have to check them out because if there anything like Snow Like Ashes, then I HAVE to read them!

  3. Just added to my to-read list :) I can't wait to read this one!

  4. I have read about 1/2 of this one so far... and I love it. My favorite part is definitely the MC. She is strong, tough, smart. I really am liking this one. Maybe not loving it yet, but if it keeps on like you say it will, this might be a love for me!
