Seventeen-year-old Zayn has special powers she cannot control—powers that others fear and covet. Powers that cause the Templar Knights to burn Zayn’s mother at the stake for witchcraft. When a mysterious stranger tempts Zayn to become the first female member of the heretical Assassins, the chance to seek her revenge lures her in. She trains to harness her supernatural strength and agility, and then enters the King of Jerusalem's court in disguise with the assignment to assassinate Guy de Molay, her mother’s condemner. But once there, she discovers Earic Goodwin, the childhood friend who still holds her heart, among the knights—and his ocean-blue eyes don’t miss a thing. Will vengeance be worth the life of the one love she has left?

ALICIA: Hi Rima, I'm very excited to have you here on Addicted Readers today!

RIMA: Thank you! I’m excited to be here!

ALICIA: 1. So, I have to ask what gave you the idea to interweave magic and assassins?

RIMA: They kind of come together to me, LOL! Actually, my biggest influences weren’t books at all. One was a video game by UbiSoft, Assassin’s Creed, and the other was a comic book, Witchblade. Assassin’s Creed has been wildly popular since 2007, and one of its unique features is the fact that it stays true to history in many respects. I loved the pitting of Assassin against Templar, the idea of two brotherhoods fighting for control of the Holy Land. Witchblade, a comic book series by Top Cow, completely captivated me in high school. It’s about Sara Pezzini, a NYPD homicide detective who finds a magical gauntlet which bonds with her and provides her with a variety of powers. The artist in me is guilty as charged — I fell in love with the gorgeous illustrations as well as the story.

ALICIA: 2. Can you tell us a little bit about are main character Zayn, and the power she possess, and what type of damage could she cause if she unleashed it upon someone?

RIMA: I really wanted Zayn’s powers to be subtle; they grow within her at any sign of danger, and make her exceptionally strong and fast, with superior focus and skill. Because Zayn herself doesn’t know what she can do, I wrote the story so that the reader learns alongside Zayn just what she is capable of. I imagine she could do quite a bit of damage against a few regular men, LOL!

ALICIA: 3. Have you always wanted to be a writer, and what would you say was your inspiration to start writing?

RIMA: I’ve always loved to write, although it never occurred to me to write as an occupation until well into adulthood. Reading books and watching movies inspired me to tell my own stories.

ALICIA: 4. What would you say was the hardest part about writing KNIGHT ASSASSIN, and what made it a challenge?

RIMA: With KA, I wrote a story that came from the heart. I didn’t write outlines or follow rules; I wrote what came naturally. It was quite a challenge handing it to readers and editors and knowing that a lot was going to change in order to sell it, because the publishing world is full of rules.

ALICIA: 5. If you could choose any magic power for yourself, what power would it be and what would you hope you could do with it?

RIMA: So many powers to choose from! To be invisible. Imagine all the things I could overhear!
