In the future dystopian society of Cabal, the government instills equality for all and offers its citizens the perfect system. There is food, shelter and jobs for everyone. The one requirement is to follow the rules without question, including the government's match in marriage and "The Day of the Chosen", a lottery that randomly selects families to conceive children as natural means hasn't existed in generations. Following her eighteenth birthday, Olivia Parker accepts her requirement to marry her childhood best friend, Joshua Warren, and is eager to start her work assignment and new life when it all comes abruptly to an end as she's arrested and thrown in prison. The only crime committed, her existence. Olivia is unlike the rest of the world born not from "The Day of the Chosen." The truth haunts the government and puts her life in grave danger as one simple fact would destroy the perfect system.

With Joshua's help, Olivia breaks free of prison and is forced on the run. Together they set out to find the promised rebel town in search of a new home and new life together. Their situation seems less than promising as they reach the town of Haven. New rules and customs must be adhered to in order to stay. Leaving would mean most certain death in the large expanse of the Gravelands. Time is running out as the government mounts an attack to destroy Olivia and bury her secret with her. Thrown into a world unlike their own, they must quickly adapt to survive
.

ALICIA: Hey Ruth, thank you so much for being apart of my 1st Blogoversary event. I am excited to have you here today! :)

RUTH: Thank you so much for having me today! Congrats on your one year blogoversary. That’s such an exciting event.

ALICIA: 1. You have a new book releasing soon called ORENDA, would you like to tell readers a little bit about it and how the Dreamscape works?

RUTH: Lil wakes up in a world that isn’t anything like the world she’s grown up in. She thinks it’s just a dream, we’ve all experienced dreams that feel real. However, she finds that one of her fingernails is painted just like in her dream, making her think that it might have in fact been real.

ALICIA: 2. Out of all the books you've wrote, and the ones that are still in the works, which one would you say has been the most challenging, and why?

RUTH: DEAD GIRL WALKING is by far the most challenging. Putting the setting in the middle of the 14th century has been quite a history lesson. Every few sentences there was something I was constantly researching topics, places, deaths, and just so many little details I can’t name it all. I did try and keep it as realistic as possible, using some historical figures and cities with a mix of the paranormal—grim reapers.

ALICIA: 3. If you could give newbie authors and authors to be, a piece of advice to further their success as a writer, what advice would you give them and why is it so vital to their success?

RUTH: Writing is only one part of selling a book. You have to be willing to spend the time to market your book, network with authors, talk to readers, and engage book bloggers. You can be an amazing writer but if no one knows who you are, you’ll never be found.

ALICIA: 4. Have you always wanted to be a writer or was it something that you realized later in life? And what do you think you would be doing as far as a career if you weren't a writer?

RUTH: I’ve loved to write since high school, but it wasn’t anything I considered as a career for me. Mostly because of how unstable a career it actually is. Before I was writing as a career, I was running my own photography business. If I wasn’t a writer, it’s probably what I’d still be doing.

ALICIA: 5. I'm very intrigued by your other book that will be releasing later this year, DEAD GIRL WALKING. Can you tell us a little bit about it and what inspired you to want to write about a Grim Reaper?

RUTH: Years ago there was a show on television DEAD LIKE ME that I absolutely fell in love with. It only lasted two seasons, but it had such potential. I found myself drawn toward writing a story about grim reapers. It’s when I realized I’ve read nothing like it and added my own spin on it, especially since it takes place in the 14th century.

ALICIA: 6. Would you ever consider writing a zombie book, or something along the lines of horror, or the "Scare the pants off you type of book" or are you leaning more towards dystopian, fantasy & paranormal books?

RUTH: It’s funny. I thought about that recently and how I’d have so much trouble not making a cheesy ending. I hate horror movies, so I can’t imagine writing a horror book. Thrillers are fun though, so maybe that same feeling without the grotesque nature of a horror novel.

FUN QUESTIONS

ALICIA: 7. ABERRANT is a scary-fascinating world, but I would never want to live within it. If you were born in the world of ABERRANT, and you had the choice to either abide by your government, stay within the rules the set, or run, and recruit, and build a rebellion to take down the vicious creators of the terrifying government that has ruined the lives of many. What would YOU do, Ruth?

RUTH: I’d like to think that I’d be on the other side of the wall, building a rebellion and standing strong against what I believe is right and just. The reality isn’t always so cut and dry. I don’t think I could leave my family behind (so unless they’re coming with me, it’s a deal breaker).

ALICIA: 8. If you were able to become a Grim Reaper would you want to, and what would you say would be the most challenging part? ;)

RUTH: Who’s to say I’m not one? :) Actually following the rules of Royal Reaper series, the most challenging part would be staying away from those in your past. I’d have a tendency to break the rules which wouldn’t go over well.

She attended Northern Illinois University in 2001 and graduated with a Bachelor's in Communication. While in college she spent much of her free time writing with friends she met online and penning her first novel, "Deuces are Wild", which she self-published in 2004. Her favorite class was Creative Writing senior year where she often handed in assignments longer than the professor required because she loved to write and always wanted to finish her stories.

Her love of writing, led her on an adventure in 2007 to Melbourne, Australia. Silver enjoys reading YA novels and sharing her favorite books with other readers. She runs her own book blog and also enjoys photography and traveling.

Her favorite YA genre is a mix of Dystopian & Fantasy which is evident in the upcoming release of her latest book, Aberrant. Slated for release April 2013 by Lazy Day Publishing, it is the first in a trilogy.
