The Registry saved the country from collapse. But stability has come at a price. In this patriotic new America, girls are raised to be brides, sold at auction to the highest bidder. Boys are raised to be soldiers, trained by the state to fight to their death.

Nearly eighteen, beautiful Mia Morrissey excitedly awaits the beginning of her auction year. But a warning from her married older sister raises dangerous thoughts. Now, instead of going up on the block, Mia is going to escape to Mexico—and the promise of freedom.

All Mia wants is to control her own destiny—a brave and daring choice that will transform her into an enemy of the state, pursued by powerful government agents, ruthless bounty hunters, and a cunning man determined to own her . . . a man who will stop at nothing to get her back.

How far would you go to control your own destiny?

Mia Morrissey has escaped: America, the Registry, and the role she was raised for— a perfect bride auctioned to the highest bidder. She’s enemy number one to the world’s largest power, and there’s no turning back now.

From the moment she and her friends Andrew, and Carter cross the border into Mexico it becomes clear their troubles are only beginning. The young men are immediately picked up by a violent and omnipotent militia—The Collection—and it’s Mia’s turn to rescue them.

With time running out, her ex-fiancé’s henchman on her trail, and a dangerous tide shifting back in America, Mia will do whatever she has to. Even if that means risking everything and putting herself back on an auction block. The price of freedom is never too high…but what if the cost is her life?

ALICIA: Hi Shannon, thank you so much for taking the time to stop by Addicted Readers today! :)

SHANNON: Thank you for having me!

ALICIA: 1. Before we get started, can you tell us in your own words a little bit about The Registry series, for readers who are unfamiliar with it?

SHANNON: Sure, The Registry series is dystopian. In the not so distant future young woman are sold into marriages through an online database while young men are raised on the streets and required to join the armed services when they turn 19. The series focuses on characters who decide to break away from their prescribed lives and escape the country.

ALICIA: 2. First, I want to tell you how much of a fan I am of The Registry, I loved it! So I just have to know what ignited the flame that sparked The Registry?

SHANNON: It all stemmed from wanting to create a social media outlet with a more sinister purpose. Think if your facebook profile was just a way for someone to buy you.

ALICIA: 3. What would you say was the hardest part about writing this series, and what about it was so challenging?

SHANNON: The hardest part was writing The Collection. It was really tricky to write a book that is a stand alone, yet continues the original story and sets up the final novel.

ALICIA: 4. From your initial draft of The Registry series, can you tell us something you were debating on keeping in that you ultimately decided to remove?

SHANNON: There are people who help Mia, Andrew, and Whitney as they make their way across the country. Originally I had planned a few more stops where different types of people helped them, but it wouldn’t have added to the story and made the page count too long.

ALICIA: 5. What are some NON-Spoiler things that we can look forward to in the next book?

SHANNON: In The Collection there are a lot of answers given, especially when it comes to how the Registry came into existence and Grant’s backstory.

ALICIA: 6. Which character was your favorite, and which character did you dislike the most, and why?

SHANNON: Grant is far and away my favorite character. It is so much fun to write from the Villain’s POV, it almost felt like a stress relief. I think on some level I enjoy all the characters, but the one who I find the most difficult to write is Carter. He never get a POV, but is still a major influence on the plot and the other characters so it is tricky making sure his emotions come off without making him annoying.

ALICIA: 7. In 10 words, describe The Registry series?

SHANNON: Fun world to read about, but I hope never exists.

Fun Questions

ALICIA: 8. You are born in the world you created, The Registry is what you were made for. Your parents have groomed you since birth to make them thousands, if not millions, your appraisal is coming soon, what do YOU do Shannon?

SHANNON: I would love to say run! But if I was kept as unaware as Mia’s sisters were I would probably be happy to meet my future husband.

Alicia: 9. Girls are being sold daily, friends, sisters, cousins, and you have had enough. What are you capable of, and should The Registry be scared of you, or write you off as a silly little girl who doesn't know any better?

SHANNON: I think they should be scared of me escaping, but once I crossed the border I don’t think I would look back. I don’t know if I would be strong enough to lead a resistance.

ALICIA: 10. Would you, Shannon, survive in the world of The Registry, or would you scum like many other girls have?

SHANNON: I like to think I am a survivor, but honestly it would depend on the support system I had around me. If I had friends similar to Mia’s I think I could live.

- Favorite food?

Fruit Roll-Ups and Popcorn

- Favorite book?

Soooo hard to answer this one, the last book I read that I loved was Reconstructing Amelia, and my current favorite series I am in the process of reading is The Selection series. The book I have read the most number of times is probably Catcher in the Rye. If I am going to get sentimental there was a Little Golden Book called “Where’s Goldie” that I still have and used to sleep with when I was a baby/toddler. It looks very loved.

- Favorite author?

Again, this is a toughy! The last author where I said “I like this book, I shall read all their others” Was Joe Hill. But the author who I have read the most of would have to be R.L. Stine. I was a big Fear Street kid.

- Favorite show?

Supernatural, wait… Banshee, no… Law & Order SVU, that’s not it….Sherlock? I’m a bit of a TV junkie.

- Favorite movie?

The Shining. Strangely enough it is a personal tradition that I watch it around Christmas time while I wrap gifts. This usually means I watch it about 3-4 times every December.

- Favorite holiday?

Halloween!

- Favorite place to write?

In dead silence. I don’t care where I am as long as the only noise I can hear is the clank-clank of the keyboard.

- Favorite book-boyfriend?

Wow. There are so many I don’t know who to pick. I’ll go with Four from the Divergent trilogy, because why not?

- Favorite thing to do on the weekend?

Hang out with my dog. I don’t care what we are doing as long as we are together.

Shannon StokerShannon Stoker lives in DeKalb, IL. She received her undergraduate and law degree from Northern Illinois University where she now works as the Research Integrity Coordinator. It's not a stretch to say she's a die hard Huskie fan!

When she's not working or writing Shannon spends the majority of her time playing with her terrier mix Nucky or her husband.

She loves watching horror movies, including those straight to DVD classics most people never heard of. If she wasn't an attorney or an author she would have been a beautician and is constantly bugging her friends to come over and let Shannon play with their hair.

So what did you think of the Interview with Shannon Stoker? Will you be giving this series a try? I really enjoyed Book # 1 and I'll be reading book #2 The Collection VERY soon!
