***HOMECOMING*** Homecoming

Five years ago, twenty-three-year-old panther shifter Sera Czedar left her home and her newly mated groom in a humiliating position after a mating ceremony gone wrong. She built a new life for herself in Varselles, the City of Outcasts where shifters exiled from their clans in the Seven Kingdoms can go for sanctuary.

Five years ago, panther shifter Levian Grayson was abandoned on the bonding bed by his bride, Sera. After years of tracking her, he arrives in Varselles, intent on staking his claim on her once and for all, even if it means hauling her over his shoulder just to make sure that happens. Sera has always known her homecoming would eventually catch up with her one day. The one thing she can’t bear to do is hurt Levian, which will happen as soon as he finds out the reason she left him. Is she ready to take that path? Most of all, will Levian still want her when the truth comes out?

Levian reached the door and flipped the upper lock, shutting them in. He spun around and stalked back to her, his gaze never leaving hers.

She rubbed her arms, shivering from that look. Her stomach clenched and heat scorched her veins.

He stopped in front of her, tucked a finger under her chin, and tipped it up. He was so close. So close, and that upper lip looked so plump and lickable. Biteable. “No assumptions. You are coming back home with us, Sera. Even if it means hauling you over my shoulder,” he said, his voice hard and confident. “Besides, I am eager to pick up where we left off.” He moved to circle his arms around her, but she squealed and dashed towards the shelves. “I do love a good chase.”

“Why don’t you and Tegue go back home? Leave me alone.”

“Leaving you alone,” he said, faking a right and causing her to jump to the left, “comes at the expense of my sanity. So, no.”

“Stop! Don’t come any closer. I don’t want to kick your ass like I did Tegue’s.”

His eyes brightened. He flashed her a very catty smile, like someone had just dangled a fat impala in front him and he couldn’t wait to stalk it. “Oh, I’m curious to know why they call you the Storm.”

She stilled, eyes wide. “You know about—does Father know?”

Before she could react, he pounced. She shrieked as they tumbled on the floor. He twisted his body so he received the full brunt of the fall, then trapped her with his muscled arms.

“Your father doesn’t know of your activities. It’s our dirty little secret.” He winked at her. Grinning, he dipped his face into the crook of her neck and licked the spot Aniek had nicked with his fangs. A snarl rumbled in his chest. “I have to make certain the only thing in your veins is my blood.” He flicked his tongue again, then pulled back. He tucked her hair behind her ear. “Why are you fighting me on this, Sera?”

“I just want you to listen. But I’m not sure I’m getting through your thick-boned skull.”

He blinked at her. “Thick-boned skull?” He dropped his face into her hair, his shoulders shaking with laughter. “I have to admit, no one has ever said that about me.”

Yes, probably afraid he’d snap their neck like useless twigs.

One hand slid to cup her neck while the other lifted her skirts, skimmed up her thigh, and gripped her waist. He pulled her to him. Everything else fell away as he held her flush to him, her breasts pressed against his chest, hips to hips. Heat coiled inside her belly as she felt his hard length pressing into her. He slanted his mouth, fitting it to hers, then licked the seam of her lips and nipped her bottom lip, stealing the air from her lungs.

She opened her mouth to catch her breath and he swooped in, tangling his tongue with hers, knocking down any lingering reservations. She clenched her hands tighter so she wouldn’t be tempted to touch him, but when his mouth traced her collarbone, kissing, biting then licking his way down to the swell of her right breast, she uncurled her fingers.

He clasped them and dragged them to his chest. “I’ve missed your touch, Sera.”

Gods, the longing, the hunger in his voice. She was powerless to him. She shivered. She had to touch him. Confirm if the hard planes and rough paths of his body felt good as they looked. Taking a long shuddering breath, she curled her fingers around his shirt, then slowly unclenched them.
