Since the age of ten, Mia has lived under the iron fist of the fundamentalist preacher who lured her mother away to join his fanatical family of followers. In Edenton, a supposed “Garden of Eden” deep in the South American jungle, everyone follows the Reverend’s strict but arbitrary rules—even the mandate of whom they can marry. Now sixteen, Mia dreams of slipping away from the armed guards who keep the faithful in, and the curious out. When the rebellious and sexy Gabriel, a new boy, arrives with his family, Mia sees a chance to escape.

But the scandalous secrets the two discover beyond the compound’s façade are more shocking than anything they ever imagined. While Gabriel has his own terrible secrets, he and Mia bond together, more than friends and freedom fighters. But is there time to think of each other as they race to stop the Reverend’s paranoid plan to free his flock from the corrupt world? Can two teenagers crush a criminal mastermind? And who will die in the fight to save the ones they love from a madman who’s only concerned about his own secrets?

ESCAPE FROM EDEN is a book that I have been wanting to read for a while now, but it was always one of those types of books that got pushed to the back of the pile for wherever reason. So when the tour opened sign-ups for review, I just knew it was time to dive into this Young Adult, Thriller, set in the harsh jungle of South American, where cults, secrets, lies, and deceit, path the way to their vicious world!

This book was well balanced. It had these fast-paced, action-packed parts, but it also had some slower parts where I could regroup, and take in what just happened and process it before the book picked up it's pace again!

The descriptive writing was amazing! It was like the author painted a picture with words! I could easily visualize every scene laid out!

The character development was great! I LOVED Gabriel. He was hot, and definitely my type of "Badboy" as he says. He's smart, hilarious, and speaks his mind no matter what anyone thought. I loved his mysterious, sheltered, strong, take charge, but still live within boundaries personality! He is definitely a character I will not forget anytime soon!

Mia was a wonderful character too, though naive at first, but after the truth was revealed, she stood up, and asked questions that no one else would! She was strong, brave, and fights for what she believed in, and I respected her for that!

Overall, ESCAPE FROM EDEN was a great book, that I'm sure to read again. I think anyone who loves a fast-paced thriller, with cults, and a touch of dystopian, with a hot romance, is sure to find this one satisfying!

Hi. I’m Elisa. I like cheese and reading and TV show marathons. Writing is scary, but not as scary as, say, Civil War amputations. I’m an Aquarius. Uh… let’s see… I’m not very good at writing my own biography. Or autobiography. I guess this is reading more like a slightly incoherent personal ad.

  5. Lovely review, as always, Alicia! :) I definitely love the sound of this book, particularly the jungle part and the fact that, like you said, it's well paced and well balanced thriller :) Sounds like something I would enjoy! Also, love the name Gabriel - just the name alone is hot, but I'm glad to hear that the character lives up to it :) Thank you so much for sharing, darling!:)
