 Excerpt

My body ached, and that distressed me, but not more than the satisfying taste of blood on my tongue. Where had it come from, and where was I?

The stench of chemicals and sickness bombarded my senses. I got up, and my muscles groaned in complaint. I hadn’t felt a twinge of unease in years, and now I felt as though I were falling ill.

I closed my eyes and took a breath. I finally processed what had happened: another blackout. The sticky sweet substance that coated my lips and chin wasn’t from an animal this time, but from a human.

The blood was fragrant and fulfilling, but the hunger still burned beneath the surface. The change seemed imminent, and I was powerless to stop it.

I sought to save Ella, but in reality, I was probably an even bigger risk to her safety. How could I protect Ella from Laurent if I wasn’t even sure I could protect her from myself? I looked around again, this time seeking the source of the O neg that still had my taste buds tingling and my stomach pleading for more. Contrary to popular belief, blood type meant nothing to a full vampire, but each Chorý preferred a certain type. Ella was AB neg, and every whiff of her scent drove me wild.

I was in a hospital lab, and an intern lay before my feet by his desk. To my relief, he still had a pulse, even if it was a weak one. What stopped me from draining him completely? I could only assume I still had some semblance of control over the beast that was la Luxure.

I turned him over and checked his neck for teeth marks only to be surprised when I found none. I searched each side of his neck and then ventured toward his shoulders where I found the gash. I shook my head in disbelief that I had taken from him so viciously. He wasn’t dead and that was a relief. My cell rang and I sprang up and placed the phone to my ear.

“Is this the legendary Kale Grey?” The unfamiliar voice on the other end of the line gave a low rumbling laugh.

I used my shoulder to keep the phone to my ear and picked up the intern’s feet and dragged him out of sight of the double doors.“Infamous, maybe.”

I chuckled as I thought of the names that I’d been called over the years. “Legendary” was not one of them. Leech, treacherous parasite, and—the least creative but most used—blood-sucker. There was no originality but it was still amusing. “Who is this?”

I placed the intern in a chair and glanced again at the gash on his shoulder. The blood had started to dry around the wound, so I went to the door, cracking it open to glance around. The hallway was empty.

I went back to the young man. His face was pale, and his breathing was shallow. I was lucky that he was alive; I pulled my up sleeve to bite my wrist and smiled.

“Funny. Yeah, well, I’m sitting here at my girlfriend’s house, wondering when she’s coming home.”

I had more important things to worry about than some stranger’s relationship. “Can you tell me why you think I care?” I asked, then bit my wrist and placed it to the wound on the intern’s shoulder. The healing was instantaneous.

“Because when Mia comes home, I am going to rip her throat out for her betrayal.”

A click signaled the end of the call.

I placed the phone back in my pocket and cursed. I’d forgotten about the Chorý that was left behind, the one that Alex asked me to take care of. I left the hospital and headed back to the cottage to pick up my vehicle.

Author Interview

Question:

1.) So, I guess the first question people would want to know is what inspired you to want to be a writer?

Answer:

- When I was young and I would read a story I would always change it as I went along, then I knew something was up that I was a little different. My Mom and aunt always told me that with my imagination I should write, but it didn’t hit until I was almost 30. By that time, I was afraid it was too late, but a dream turned daydream and family support reminded me that it’s never too late to follow your dreams.

Question:

2.) How did the idea come up for the series "Few Are Angels"?

Answer:

- It was a dream turned daydream. The funny thing is, the dream never made it into the book. I cut the scene out and completely rewrote it.

Question:

3.) Who is your favorite character in Awakened?

Answer:

- I love how Darke struggles with his feeling for Ana and what he has become. I think in every bad guy there is that voice that says, “Hey, you are a real jerk and you need to think about what you can do to NOT suck so bad.” The deciding factor in good vs. bad is whether he listens to that voice or not.

Question:

4.) What was the hardest part in having to write this series "Few Are Angels" and why?

Answer:

- Writing about Ella’s parent’s death was difficult. I wondered if readers would understand why Ella wouldn’t mourn their death and why she placed their memory away. Death is hard and while some accept it, Ella demands it stay in the locked box in her brain.

Question:

5.) What was your first thoughts on Ella's character?

Answer:

     - I knew that Ella would be a bit naive. I know some readers don’t like that, but hey, characters have to grow throughout the series or to me they aren’t worth reading about. They don’t always start out like Wonder Woman they experience things that help them grow.

Question:

6.) What was your favorite part of writing this series?

Answer

- My favorite part is deciding where my characters will go in the future. I love the fact that I get to decide EVERYTHING about them. It’s fun!

Question:

7.) If you would change anything about this series what would it be and why?

Answer

- I would have had Ella in the car accident with her parents. I think that would have been a bit more dramatic.

Thank you so much Inger, for the AMAZING series you have created in "Few Are Angels" and the time you've dedicated to your readers, and to this interview!

My Review

I receive a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. Everything your about to read is my full and honest opinion about the book.

First I want to say if you haven't read this book yet then you need too! It was an AMAZING follow-up to the first book in the series "Few Are Angels"! This book was unlike anything I have EVER read! The writer sucks you in from the first page to the last and has you longing for more.

This book had me on the edge of my seat, my heart was pounding, my hands were shaking, and I wanted this book to NEVER END! Awakened had a solid plot and interesting characters that you love to hate! Ella was my favorite. I enjoyed seeing such growth within her from the first book to the second. I liked her character probably the most out of everyone. She made the book come alive, in my opinion.

Awakened has multiple point of views. So we get a full glimpse of what everyone is thinking and doing throughout the book. Which I enjoyed getting every ones point of views, instead of just one.

Right from the start of the Prologue things are complicated. Ella is having visions of a girl in trouble, a girl that will be used like herself. She thinks this girl will either save them from Laurent's wrath, and end Laurent's Tyrannical Rule or doom them and do as Laurent wishes!

Now Kale has the weight of the world on his shoulders. He must overcome many obstacles to keep the ones close to him safe! He has to do all this while trying to control the demon inside of him screaming to be let lose!

Ella has choices to make that will not only affect her, but also affect the ones around her! Ella learns of things she never could of imagined! The ones she thought she could trust are the ones that might very well betray her in the end!

The writing style was AMAZING! The writer knows how to draw the reader in and keep their full attention!

I really, really, enjoyed this book, maybe even a little more then the first book. But the first book was amazing too, and is A MUST READ for ALL "Few Are Angel Fans"!

Overall, I LOVE series and found it very entertaining and it had me wanting more in the end!'

I will be impatiently awaiting the next book in this series! :)
